Members of CERT who participated in the drill simulating the aftermath of Hurricane Yada on May 12, 2022. The team coordinated emergency communications with EOC, Cedar Hammock Fire Control District and Trailer Estates. In this drill, all cell and home telephone communications were down in Manatee County. Downed power lines, home fires, injured residents and flooding were all scenarios that members used their training to respond to.
Before the drill leaders placed different scenarios in pre-planned locations not known to CERT members circulating in the six zones of Trailer Estates.
The Command Center communicates with EOC via HAM radio communications and TE CERT members in the field communicate with the Command Center via two-way FRS radios. Overcoming communication issues was a main goal in this training exercise.
